Working for a Giving
June 1, 2011

Genesis 24:19 - "When she had given him a drink, she said, I will draw water for your camels also, until they finish drinking"

If anyone asks you what you do for a living, God's Word has a great reply.  Tell them, "I'm working for a giving"!  In other words, you can actually make a living on your giving.  I've lived that way for many years now, and I plan to increase my giving and, as a result, increase my living.

In Genesis 24, there is a wonderful account of a man named Eleazar, who is the eldest servant of Abraham's household.  Abraham sends him out to find a wife for his son, Isaac.  Sounds like a godly principle to me, I told my kids not to wonder about who they will marry, that I will be picking them myself!  They thought that was real funny!  Eleazar prays in verse 14 concerning the character of the person he was believing for.  In essence, he was praying that the woman he would find would have a giving heart, one that would not only give him a drink but his camels also, which store up to 10 gallons each.  When he met Rebecca, she did just that...she was living by her giving, or she was "working for a giving".  Her giving attitude and nature made way for her to marry the wealthiest heir in the region, and a man of covenant!  Now that's the way to meet a wife or a husband!  What is so fascinating is that in verse 61 it says that she rode off on one of the camels that she had prepared for the journey.

Are you living in lack?  Are you afraid of the signs of this present economy?  Do you run out of money before you run out of month?   Don't work for a living, work for a giving.  If you be Christ's, you are Abraham's seed, and an heir according to the promise.  If you aren't already, it's time to start "working for a giving".
