"Mom's" the Word
May 10, 2012
Ephesians 6:2 - "Honor thy father and thy mother: which is the first commandment with promise".
As Mother's Day approaches, I think of Genny, my mother, who was a very special lady in my life. Not only as a mother, but as a friend. One of her best attributes, among many, was her ability to make people laugh. She went to be with the Lord in heaven several years ago, and is probably making God laugh as well. When we were kids, we would celebrate Mother's Day by making my mom breakfast in bed. Then we would tell her to wait in bed until her "present" was ready. Then we would plant lots of flowers in the backyard. Then we would finally let mom come out and observe our masterpiece! Her excited response would always make us feel so special.
"Mom's" the Word means to honor our mothers. By honor, I mean to place high value on, like my mom used to say, "you have lots of friends, but you only have one mother!"
This Sunday, let's remember our moms. Let's all make sure to honor all of our mothers and show them in a very special way how much we love and appreciate them. God places so much importance on moms that He says, to honor them is "the first commandment with promise"! Remember, "Mom's the Word!"
